Would you describe your life as okay but not great? While it isn’t always meant to be a trip along the yellow brick road to joy, it should inspire you much of the time. If yours doesn’t make you glad to be alive, it’s time to swap humdrum for happy. It is time to kick-start life and get out of a rut!
1. Shake up routines
People who live in a rut have plenty of routines. Repeating behaviors brings comfort, but doesn’t ignite passion. If you want to feel inspired, make your habits interesting.
Rather than buy a burger and fries when you go out, try foreign foods. Instead of watching Game of Thrones with friends, buy a movie camera and create films to view. Branch out. Try new things and you’ll feel more alive.
2. Be a student
Learn something new to create enthusiasm and wonder. The more you challenge your brain in fresh enjoyable ways the more inspired and motivated you’ll be. Take a course, join a class, or engage in a new hobby and watch your well-being soar.
3. Follow your dreams
People aren’t kidding when they say “life is short.” You’re only here for a while and might as well reach for the stars while you can. Consider what you want to do, but haven’t tried because you fear failure or imagine you can’t squeeze your dream into your schedule.
Stop making excuses not to embark on adventures, however big or small, and set forth. As a result, you’ll live rather than stagnate.
4. Step out of your comfort zone
Does awkwardness flutter in your stomach when someone suggests you do something new? You miss positive experiences if you stick with familiarity and comfort to avoid niggling fear.
Do the same things and you’ll get the same results. If you don’t like your life, stretch your boundaries and try new activities, meet different people, and expand your interests. Only then will your rut vanish.
5. Be a culture vulture
Do you feed your mind with art, music, and literature? When you view galleries and museums, read poetry or great motivational speeches, attend the theater, travel, and explore your roots your spirit will stir and boost your love of life.
Creativity can also enliven your soul and give you the enthusiasm to express yourself. Paint, write, or carry out a different form of creativeness. Be part of culture and you won’t feel as though you’re one of life’s wallflowers.
If you’re in a rut, it’s time to expand your horizons and climb back out. Once you enlarge your perspective and adopt various activities, your enthusiasm and satisfaction will surge.
Get out of a rut, get out of your rut!
