Brace yourselves – Mother’s Day is coming.
Batten down the hatches, hoist anchor, set course for calmer waters. Because if you forget Mother’s Day, there will be no stopping the storm you’ll face. Let’s be honest, the woman who brought you into this world is more than capable of taking you out of it.
So take the time and make a mental note, or even set it in your calendar, to celebrate this day. A day devoted to saying thank you to the women that ensured we made it through childhood. Looking back on how I was as a child, my mom deserves some kind of war medal. Or to shake hands with the Queen or something…. I know for sure that I was no easy task. And it’s not like her job is done. She’s still the first person my brother and I call when something goes awry. Always.
To top it all off, my mother did it all on her own. She raised two nearly uncontrollable boys, by herself, to become at the very least half-decent men and human beings. If that isn’t a feat of immense mental strength I don’t know what is.
Make sure that you take some time this week to think about what your mother has done for you.
It could be anything. And make sure that once you’ve thought of something, that you tell her about it and what it meant to you. Write it in a card. Send her a message or even call her. You have no idea how much it would mean to her. Being a mother is a thankless job. Take some time to change that. After all, she wiped your butt. She definitely deserves a day of praise.
So, to the women that love us unconditionally. That sang us to sleep. That took care of us when we were sick. That applauded us when we achieved something. Thank you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you SO much. We literally wouldn’t be alive without you.
