Maybe it’s time to live. There’s no doubt that life has reached a pace that makes it really difficult to keep up. World-changing inventions and actions used to come around every few decades, but now it’s happening every few days. Keeping up with the rest of the world has become incredibly taxing. But maybe we shouldn’t try…
Not saying that we should move to the hills and lock ourselves away from the world, hide curled up in a corner whispering “it’s not real, it’s not real”. But maybe we should start affording some time to REAL things.
Start with something small:
Get that book you’ve always wanted to read and spend half an hour a day doing just that. Take those words in, absorb them and let them play in your mind. Spend just ten seconds more looking at that view. Grasp not only at the sights, but the smells and sounds as well. Call your best friend and see how they are doing. You’ll make their day, and that’ll make yours, too. Make someone laugh, tell a stupid joke or a really good one. When they laugh, laugh with them. When you get home from work, don’t take a seat on the couch. Go for a walk, sit under a tree or just stroll around your garden for a while.
It’s easy to blame not having enough time to do the things you want to. But you’d be surprised by how much time you can find when you stop thinking about how little time you have and just start seeking it out. You may not find several more hours in your day, but you don’t need that. Start small, find something you really enjoy, something devoid of technology, and take whatever time you can muster to fully enjoy that thing. Don’t share it with anyone. This isn’t something you need to find acceptance for by how many likes your new hobby gets, just do it for you!
