I am going to start off by saying that been a parent is a blessing. There is so much growth and love that one goes through on this journey.
Paying for a child, clothes, food, schooling and everything else. That is a parent’s obligation, period! A child is not interested in this. All your child will want from you is your love and your time. That is the foundation of a well rounded upbringing.
Then they grow up and so do their wants, their interests and the never ending questions.
I was once told that it is only the first 40 years of parenting that is the hardest. For those that have not been there and created a mini version of yourself. I say to you that this is definitely true. Small children, small problems. Big children, big problems.
There are times in the younger years of been a parent that you will be challenged. You will be manipulated. You will find yourself on the loosing side of a debate with a 3 year old. Why, because their points are often valid and this leaves you thinking “Uhm…… Well…… Ermmmm……Okay, I have nothing. I cannot fault your logic.” Have I mentioned the lack of sleep yet? Oh, you are in for a treat there 🙂 One has but to look at the before and after of new parents that were bubbling with eagerness a few months before birth. I secretly laugh inside when I see this.
Parenting is an obstacle course
It is a journey that takes many scenic routes to arrive at the destination (which is only a pit stop by the way!) It is all in the journey. An unspoken experience that one can knowingly share with another parent either in amazement or a deeper knowing were words are not required.
It really is all worth it though. Been hugged with a, “I love you!” makes all the challenging moments worth it.
