“Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.” – Socrates
Yeah right. Smoke another one bro! Just like the time Charles Darwin quoted the exact same thing. If it is on the internet, it must be true! So why are people so incredibly gullible?
False beliefs still persist even though there is hard evidence proving otherwise. Trying to deny them only seems to fan the flames. Neigh! Fuel the fire with jet fuel!
Even intelligent people can get sucked into what seems true. It really comes down to how our brain interprets information. Does it sound trustworthy – from a credible source? Do other people believe it? Is there a good story behind it?
Look at all the internet scams and sensationalist news items with “photographic” evidence (otherwise known as “photoshopped”) backing up the scam or news piece. Seeing is believing, well not always.
We have all been there – incredibly gullible (unfortunately)
At the end of the day, everyone of us has fallen prey to something like this. One should do one’s research. Query facts before blindly forwarding on spam to another friend/colleague or family member.
It takes all types of people to make the world spin 🙂 In fact, it would stop spinning if everyone jumped off #trueStory.
So travel the web with caution and humour. If it sounds like utter nonsense, it most probably is. The truth is to live by your own convictions and forge understandings based on your own experiences. Not from another persons beliefs.
